Chapter 5:Brokenhearted

There’s something about being near the ocean that can soothe your soul. Maybe it’s the sound of the rolling waves, the warm sand between your toes, or the gorgeous sunset in the distance. Whatever it is, David was hoping that it would work its magic that evening.  He had spent the day doing more writing and recording for the album and then he'd had dinner with friends. Through it all, his heart was heavy and he couldn’t stop thinking about Jasmine. Why was it that everywhere he went he thought he saw her face or heard her voice? He needed some time to walk, to think, to pray.

As he walked slowly over the boardwalk, he could swear he heard Jasmine’s infectious laugh. It’s just your imagination, he told himself. But now he heard it again. Was that her?Walking closer to the sand, he looked further down the beach. It was her.

For a few seconds David’s heart beat faster. It was so great to see her. It had been so long! Three months without seeing her had felt like an eternity to him. Even from a distance she was beautiful. But then he realized that she was with someone. Who was he? Why did he have his arm around Jasmine? David’s heart sank. Whoever he was, he was making her laugh. She looked so happy and comfortable with him.

Had she really moved on so soon? He continued to watch them, his heartache and jealousy growing with each step they took. As they got closer to the boardwalk, they embraced. David couldn't believe what he was seeing; this couldn't be real. He quickly ducked into one of the boardwalk shops so he wouldn’t be seen. As they passed by he stared after them, feeling like a knife had been plunged into his heart. He was crushed.

Wiping tears from his eyes, David slowly made his way down the boardwalk and onto the beach. Why did it hurt so bad? He thought that he had accepted the fact that it was over, that Jasmine had left him. But seeing her tonight with someone else was almost more than he could bear.

He thought about all that they had been through and all that they had shared.  The first time he met her he knew she was special. He had been immediately drawn to her beauty but it was her amazing spirit that captured him. She was funny, kind, confident, adventurous and spiritual. He admired and respected her so much.

After they finished shooting Nandito Ako and he left on his mission, he had often thought of her.  Although they were different from his own, he had been intrigued and wanted to know more. After they started dating she had shared even more with him, and he would be eternally grateful.

The past couple of years had been wonderful and now… it was all over? It just didn’t make sense. He thought about all the things they had planned to do together. He remembered when they had discovered that they had some of the same things on their bucket list, even skydiving. That would have been next.

He thought that they had meant more to each other than this. He couldn’t erase the image of her embracing that other guy and the way she looked at him, like they’d known each other forever. The jealousy and hurt he felt threatened to choke him and he fought back tears. Had he been too blinded by his own feelings for her to see that maybe she didn’t feel the same? He felt sick to his stomach at the thought. He felt like a fool. He knew he had to move on and forget, but how?
